Principal`s Welcome

Dear Dear Nova Middle School,

Middle School is a time of fantastic changes, challenging moments and independence. Not since infancy has a child changed so much and so rapidly. A good middle school looks at this unique developmental phase and sees potential. To that respect, we have tailored our middle school to meet the emotional, educational and physical needs of our students.

Our curriculum is designed to allow students multiple opportunities to engage in learning. Students of this age have limited attention spans, and our instruction is varied and interactive. Students build robot arms in science classes to learn about hydraulics, create models of ancient civilizations to understand how farming changed the course of human history, and manipulate text to write opinion essays in English classes. Our students take part in academic competitions such as Math Counts and Knowledge Bowl where they compete on a global stage.

As a middle school we understand that adolescence is a time where students need a great deal of support. We utilize advisory times and homeroom teachers to ensure that all students have an ally in at least one adult on campus. We encourage students to challenge their ideas and grow as people. We do this through campaigns to fight bullying, the Go Green environmental team and community service projects.

At Nova Middle School we look at the whole child and have endeavored to create an open climate in which parents are an active part of our school. The connection to home is vital, and we foster communication in multiple ways. Teachers post homework and expectations on the Edline system, send regular emails and progress reports home, as well as parent teacher conferences, daily office hours and regular phone conversations.

Finally, we firmly believe that a healthy body has a healthy mind. Our students take part in physical education and dance classes. In addition, we regularly schedule soccer and capture the flag tournaments during break times. We have a varied and well developed extra curricular program that offers classes in fencing, basketball, swimming and martial arts.
