Dear NOVA Parent,
We are committed to helping all children learn and weunderstand that students learn differently. Sometimes when we notice that a studentis not working up to his/her potential, we need to look more closely to understand where the difficulties lie. This usually involves consulting with parents and teachers, as well as administering special tests to determine the student’s strengths and challenges. Based on the information gathered and test results we can then customize our instructionby creating an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) that specifies the best strategies to help the student learn and progress. In the Center for Differentiated Learning we have Learning Specialists who are specially trained to work with children who have learning differences. On staff we have Jana Spirovska, a trained psychologist and Learning Specialist who is certified to administer the special tests needed to identify the child’s needs. Also, we have Michelle Coon, who has a Masters degree and is state certified in Special Education through the University of California. Elizabeth Richards another experienced Learning Specialist, has received specific training in helping children who struggle with reading and language arts, as well as math. The help they provide may involve in class support, or one on one tutorials on a daily or weekly basis.
The process of helping children involves these steps: testing and identification, creating and applying an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) and systematic monitoring of student progress. Assistance is extended beyond the classroom as we work closely with students, teachers, parents, and administrators. Children who are helped by our Center for Differentiated Learning receive support beyond what is given to the other students. Therefore, in order to cover these extra services we must charge an additional fee. This fee covers:
- Testing and evaluation
- Creation of an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) specific to the child
- Regular tutorials and in class support with a learning specialist to carry out the ILP
- Consultation with the student’s other teachers to assist in carrying out the ILP in all subjects
- Regular consultations with parents, teachers and administrators
- Assessments to chart the child’s progress
- Use of additional classroom resources to implement the ILP
The Center for Differentiated Learning is a non-profit section of NOVA and all funds are dedicated directly to resourcing and developing the center.
Fees:
Psychometric Assessment
There will be a charge of 20 euro per test if the child does not receive any further support. Otherwise the cost of testing is included in the overall Individual Support fee. Multiple tests may be needed to effectively assess a student’s needs. Each recommended test is carefully discussed with the parents before it is administered, and thetest results are shared, along with an individualized learning plan.
IndividualSupport
Intensive support: 2,900 euro per year
Daily support: 1,500 europer year
Alternate days support: 1,000 euro per year
