NOVA High School

SCHOOL PROFILE

FACILITIES

Presently, the Elementary and Middle School is situated in the modern and spacious NOVA building. Students are assigned their own classroom and in addition have regular access to computer labs, science labs, art and drama studios, an auditorium, library, bookstore, full service cafeteria, outdoor green areas and sports terrain.

STUDENTS

NOVA Elementary and Middle School students represent a cross-section of the world. Daily interactions between students who represent these cultures are a key component of our education. In 2004, Macedonian fifth to eighth graders were permitted to join the ranks of our international student body, adding yet another level of cultural diversity to our school. Currently, 60% of the student population is made up of international students.

NOVA FACULTY

Elementary and Middle School exposes students to gifted and caring educators. Our teachers are required to have significant cross-cultural educational experience and to be able to individualize instruction in a small class setting. Master teachers and assistants in the Elementary School (K-5) have a designated classroom, while studios are used for teaching the Art, Music, PE, and Dance programs. Middle School students and their teachers have unrestricted access to the labs and technology of NOVA High School.

PHILOSOPHY OF WORK

By stimulating both the intellect and imagination, students are taught to become enthusiastic learners. The foundation of learning in the academic disciplines is established early and is supplemented through hands-on activities. NOVA program is both structured (enabling timely and well documented progress of students) and flexible (wide range of interdisciplinary activities). Because classes are small but include many cultures, the teaching strategies vary according to the learning style and background of each student.

NOVA ADMISSION

Elementary and Middle School believes in the endless potential of each child and therefore accepts students who exhibit a wide range of abilities without regard to race, religion, sex, non-disqualifying handicap, national or ethnic origin. All new applicants need to present their unique personality through an application, submit formal record(s) of prior educational attainment, and show strong family commitment to the school’s philosophy and program. Final admission is granted through an English language and Math diagnostic tests, as well as a personal interview. Letters of recommendation from students’ previous teachers are an important part of the student’s application.
