Why Nova

What makes NOVA unique?

A Diverse, International Learning Community

Founded in 1997, NOVA is the oldest registered private school in North Macedonia and the largest international educational institution in the country. The school brings together students from more than 40 nationalities, with over 20 languages spoken across campus. English is the primary language of instruction and communication.
NOVA serves diplomatic, expatriate, and local families seeking an inclusive, globally oriented education. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 6:1, students are well known to their teachers. Half of the faculty hold postgraduate degrees, and one-third have been part of the NOVA community for more than a decade, contributing to continuity, experience, and stability.

An IB World Continuum School with a Clear Learning Pathway

At NOVA, students follow a clear and coherent learning pathway from the early years through graduation. As an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School since 2006, NOVA offers the Primary Years Programme (PYP) from pre-kindergarten through grade 5, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) in grades 6–10, and the Diploma Programme (DP) in grades 11 and 12. Together, these programs form a full IB World Continuum. This allows learning to build intentionally over time. Academic skills, habits of mind, and personal responsibility develop gradually, supporting both achievement and well-being. Students are guided by educators who know them well and support their progress at each stage, helping them move forward with confidence and direction.

А Holistic Approach

Learning at NOVA is designed to support students academically, personally, and socially. A rigorous academic program is complemented by a broad range of co-curricular opportunities in athletics, the arts, and community engagement. Teaching emphasizes meaningful connections across subjects, practical application of knowledge, and active participation in school and community life. Within this balanced approach, students are supported to achieve strong academic outcomes, including results above global IB benchmarks, while developing discipline, creativity, collaboration, and integrity.

Focused Support for Student Well-being

Student Support Services at NOVA provide coordinated academic, social-emotional, and university guidance, alongside individualized learning support tailored to each student’s needs. A dedicated medical team supports the health and safety of students and staff. Additional services, including tutoring and daycare for younger students, help ensure families are supported throughout their time at NOVA. Well-being is not treated as an add-on, but as a foundation for sustained learning and growth.

A Welcoming and Supportive Community

NOVA is a close, caring community where students, faculty, and families feel known and connected. This sense of belonging extends beyond the school years, with alumni remaining engaged in the life of the school. Community is built through shared experiences such as student assemblies, Houses competitions, school performances, Back-to-School Night, and end-of-year celebrations, as well as family-led initiatives that bring people together in meaningful ways. New students are welcomed with care through peer ambassador programs, and families may choose to be paired with an experienced NOVA family through the PTA Family Ambassador program. Admissions staff, counselors, and homeroom and advisory teachers work closely to support transitions, ensuring students feel secure and confident as they settle in. Education at NOVA is a shared responsibility, grounded in trust and partnership.

SuperNOVA Program: Learning, Leadership, and Team Spirit

SuperNOVA offers Secondary School students meaningful opportunities to grow through athletics and academic activities that emphasize teamwork, commitment, and personal responsibility. Students may participate and compete in team sports such as football, basketball, and volleyball, as well as individual sports such as cross country, tennis, and swimming. Alongside athletics, SuperNOVA includes academic activities such as Knowledge Bowl, MathCounts, Speech and Debate, and Robotics, providing students with varied ways to explore interests, develop skills, and represent the school with pride.

Accredited Locally and Internationally

NOVA is accredited by the Middle States Association Commission on Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS) and the national Ministry of Education and Science, supporting continuity for students who join our community or transition onward. Our standards-based curriculum is grounded in the International Baccalaureate framework from PK3 through Grade 12, providing a coherent and purposeful learning journey.  Teaching and learning attend not only to academic development, but also to students’ social and emotional growth. Students are encouraged to think critically, make meaningful connections, and approach challenges with curiosity and perspective.
