Why Nova

What makes NOVA unique?

The Oldest Private School with a Diverse Community

Founded in 1997, NOVA is the oldest registered private school in North Macedonia and the largest international educational institution in the country. Our community is made up of students from over 40 nationalities, with more than 20 languages spoken on campus. English is the primary language of instruction and communication. Diplomatic families, expatriates, and local families seeking a global education choose NOVA for its diverse and inclusive environment. US and third-country nationals comprise over 50% of the student body. With a  student-to-faculty ratio 6:1, we ensure personalized learning experiences. Half of our faculty hold postgraduate degrees, and a third have been with the school for over a decade.

Oldest IB World Continuum School with a Holistic Approach to Learning

NOVA has been an authorized International Baccalaureate(IB) World School since 2006, offering the Diploma Programme(DP). We are also authorized for the Middle Years Programme(MYP) for grades 6-10 and the Primary Years Programme(PYP) for grades PK 3-5, providing a continuous and well-rounded IB education.

Holistic Educational Approach

At NOVA, we prepare students for an ever-changing world by combining a rigorous academic curriculum with a broad range of extracurricular activities, including sports, the arts, and community service. Our approach emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, practical application of knowledge, and active engagement in the community. Our students consistently achieve results above the global IB average. We Are Focused on Our Student's Well-being

Our robust Student Support Services team provides social-emotional, academic, and college matriculation support, along with individualized learning support tailored to each student's needs. A dedicated medical team ensures our students and staff’s health and safety. Additionally, we offer tutoring services and daycare options for younger students.

Modern Sustainable Campus

Our purpose-built campus accommodates all school divisions: the Early Education Center, Elementary School, and Secondary School. The facilities include multiple science labs, libraries, cafeterias, auditoriums, an outdoor amphitheater, and dedicated music, dance, and design spaces. The outdoor area includes three gated playgrounds, a small soccer field, a sports court, and multiple green spaces.

Sustainability is a priority—our rooftop solar plant supplies up to 50% of the school’s energy needs. We actively monitor indoor and outdoor air quality, following the US School Flag Program to indicate pollution levels. In response to high pollution, we implement protective measures, including air purifiers throughout the campus. Additionally, reverse-osmosis water fountains are installed school-wide to reduce plastic waste.

NOVA Is a Welcoming and Supportive Community

At NOVA, students, faculty, and staff foster a strong sense of belonging. Our alumni remain engaged with the school and actively participate in events and initiatives. The sense of a strong community can be felt at all the events we organize during the school year, from student assemblies to the Houses Competition program, from school-wide events like the annual school performances, Back-to-School night, and end-of-year performances, to initiatives such as the PTA-led Fall and Spring festivals, Winter Market, Valentine's Day celebration, Thanksgiving, Teacher Appreciation, morning coffees, among others.

Student ambassadors are assigned to all new students, whereas new families can sign up and be matched with an existing family through the PTA Family Ambassador program. Our admissions team, counselors, and homeroom/advisory teachers closely monitor students' transitions to ensure a smooth adjustment. We believe in the philosophy that "it takes a village to raise a child", with our faculty actively participating in each student's educational journey, working closely with Student Support Services team when needed.

Students Are Proud of the SuperNOVA Teams

We offer a diverse and challenging SuperNOVA Athletics and Academic Program to our Secondary School students. This program provides opportunities for students to participate, compete, and excel in both team (soccer, basketball, and volleyball) and individual (cross country, tennis, swimming) sports, along with various academic activities such as Knowledge Bowl, MathCounts, Speech and Debate, and Robotics.

Locally and Internationally Accredited

Our Middle States Association Commission on Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS) and the local Ministry of Science and Education accreditations allow our students to seamlessly transition to and from our community. We implement a standards-based curriculum rooted in the IB framework (PK3-Grade 12), enabling students to benefit from an exceptionally stimulating learning environment. The curriculum is designed to consider not only the student's academic skills but also their social-emotional well-being. Our students accumulate knowledge and are encouraged to "think outside the box," contextualize different concepts and have a holistic approach to problem-solving.
