Five Steps, With Our Team Along the Way

Applying to a new school involves important decisions and practical details. Our Admissions team is here to make the process clear, answer your questions, and explain what to expect at each stage.

Five steps

How to Apply

The application helps us get to know your child, understand their previous school experience and learning needs, and determine whether NOVA can provide the academic support they need.

1

Talk to Us

Start with a conversation with our Admissions team, either on campus or online.

This is your opportunity to tell us about your child and what you are looking for in a school. We can explain how NOVA works, answer your questions, and help you understand whether the school could be a good fit for your family.

2

Apply Online

When you are ready to apply, complete the online application through OpenApply.

Once we receive your application, a member of the Admissions team will stay in touch and guide you through the remaining steps.

3

Send the Required Documents

To help us build a complete picture of your child and their previous school experience, we ask families to provide:

  • A recent digital passport-size photo
  • A copy of the student’s passport or birth certificate
  • School records from the previous two years in English, except for PK3, PK4, and Kindergarten applicants
  • Vaccination card and completed Health Form
  • A teacher recommendation in English for applicants to Grades 1–12
  • Standardized assessment results from the student’s previous school for applicants to Grades 1–12

Our Admissions team will let you know if anything is missing from your application.

4

Assessment and Interview

Applicants to Grades 1–12 complete an interview and the NWEA MAP Admissions Screening Test in Mathematics and Reading. Students applying to PK3, PK4, and Kindergarten do not complete this assessment process.

The assessment gives us information about a student’s current academic level and readiness for the grade they are entering. Students are expected to perform at or above grade level for admission.

The interview also gives us an opportunity to meet the student and learn more about them beyond their application documents.

5

Application Review and Decision

Once the application is complete, the Admissions Committee reviews all of the information provided. The committee considers the student’s academic readiness and learning needs, the support the school can provide, and the availability of a place in the appropriate grade or program.

Families will receive one of three decisions:

Admission Offer

Your child’s application has been approved, and a place is available.

Waiting Pool

Your child’s application has been approved, but a place is not currently available. Our Admissions team will stay in contact and let you know if a place becomes available.

Admission Declined

There may be cases where a student does not currently meet the academic requirements for admission, or where the level of learning support they need is beyond what NOVA can provide at that time. When this happens, we will clearly communicate the decision to the family.

Ready to Begin?

You do not need to have every question answered before getting in touch. Start with a conversation with our Admissions team. We can talk through your child’s situation, explain the process, and help you understand what comes next.
