Parent Teacher Association

The Parent-Teacher Association is a body that primarily serves to strengthen the relationship between students' parents and the school, thus contributing to our wider community development. The aim of the PTA-led initiatives and activities is, through community-based charities and fundraisers, to boost the feeling of belonging, to raise awareness regarding social issues that affect all community stakeholders, to organize social events for the greater benefit of all, and to help new families in Skopje make an easy and swift transition. The PTA strives to support parents, faculty, and staff by facilitating communication and fostering community through a variety of initiatives.

PTA MISSION AND GOALS

The Parent-Teacher Association’s primary goal is to reinforce the school’s mission, vision, and core beliefs. It facilitates communication between parents, teachers, and students to foster a continuing positive atmosphere in the school. It broadens and enriches the experiences of all members of the community and attempts to create opportunities for families and staff to get to know one another better through social events. The PTA helps incoming families adjust to their new home and school and supports the school in its efforts to raise parental awareness on pertinent topics related to their children’s development and upbringing. The PTA also promotes public relations through active involvement and engagement in the wider community.

2024-25 PTA COUNCIL MEMBERS:

Join us! The NOVA PTA meets monthly and holds two General Assembly Meetings per school year. In addition to organizing activities throughout the year such as monthly coffee morning meet-ups, school year start social events, fall and spring festival activities for NOVA’s elementary students, and winter and spring fundraising events. 2023-24 PTA COUNCIL MEMBERS:

Annabel Greenleaf, President

Annabel is delighted to take on the role of PTA President this year. As the mother of a Grade 1 Nova student, she knows the importance of a strong and positive relationship between school and parents. Originally from the UK, she worked in the media before living and working for NGOs in several different countries. She is currently happy to be enjoying life in Skopje.

Almira Tagi, Vice President

Almira has a loving family that brings immense joy to her life, consisting of her caring husband, her wonderful daughter, and their adorable cat, who adds an extra sprinkle of happiness to their home. Her daughter is attending NOVA and enthusiastically embracing her educational journey in the third grade. In her free time, she enjoys traveling to new places, immersing herself in different cultures, trying out new foods, reading books, practicing pilates, going for bicycle rides, and having picnics with her family. She is looking forward to making a difference in her new role. She is excited to contribute to the community and work together with other volunteers.

Min Shi Li, Treasurer

Bisera Dimitrovska, Communications

Bisera has two sons at NOVA, in 5th grade and pre-K4. Beyond her PTA role, she has worked in communications for more than ten years. When she’s not working, she enjoys spending quality time with her family, biking, being in nature, or reading. She has a tight connection with the school. As a Nova alumna, the school has played an instrumental role in shaping her values and educational foundations. As an Elementary School support teacher, Bisera is committed to boosting all children's well-being. She believes in building a strong and vibrant community and encouraging parental involvement to enhance the school experience.

Antoaneta Kirova Veselinovska, Fundraising and Community Service

Ani has a family of five children. Four have completed academic education, while the youngest is in 9th grade at NOVA. She loves astronomy and loves to cook, while in her free time - she enjoys walking and hiking. She dedicated a significant part of her professional life to organizing fundraising events. She looks forward to being a part of the PTA and contributing as much as possible.

Snezhana Gjorgiev, PTA Member

Snezhana has a daughter who is currently enrolled in 9th grade. She is happiest when she is spending time with her family, traveling, and discovering new places. She also enjoys reading books, helping street cats, and learning new languages. She looks forward to strengthening the community and increasing the number of parents engaged in the school and the PTA-organized events.

Ms. Irina teaches Interdisciplinary Science in the MYP program, specifically in grades 9 and 10. She is married and doesn't have children yet. In her free time, she works on her master's thesis and enjoys spending quality time with family and friends. She is looking forward to being a PTA member this year because it will allow her to get to know the NOVA community better and help parents and teachers collaborate together in order to make the school a better place for our students.

Ms. Anila has been part of the NOVA family since 2010, first as a substitute teacher for Albanian Language, then as a part-time teacher for Albanian language. She is now a full-time teacher. She has a 14-year-old daughter and is a devoted parent. She is happy to join the PTA and contribute to building a stronger community. In her free time, she loves to cook. She also enjoys hiking.

Ivana Pemper, Teacher Representative

Ivana has been part of the Nova International Schools as a learning support teacher for three years. Her focus is helping students grow academically and socially, and emotionally. Off-duty, you'll find her reading self-development books, enjoying sitcoms, and embracing the tranquility of Gazi Baba Park. She is excited to be part of the PTA community and contribute with her people skills to growing the school's community.

2022-23 PTA INITIATIVES SUPPORTING OUR MISSION

COFFEE MORNINGS: The PTA organizes “coffee morning” sessions at least once a month, including workshops and discussions on events relevant to our children and the school and informal events for parents to socialize. These events are also opportunities for attending parents to bring forth concerns and new ideas for a complete school experience, benefiting both the students and their teachers.

FACULTY AND STAFF APPRECIATION: We organize events and launch initiatives to encourage and thank our faculty and staff for their hard work and dedication.

ROOM PARENTS PROGRAM: The PTA recruits and supports a team of Room Parents who serve as liaisons between parents of Elementary School students with opportunities to support the learning experience in their child’s class and connect with the broader school community. If you are interested in becoming a Room Parent for your child’s class, please contact pta@nova.edu.mk. A similar initiative is being developed for the school’s Secondary division.

FAMILY AMBASSADOR PROGRAM: This volunteer program is designed to connect new NOVA families with established ones to ease new families’ transition into the school community and the greater Skopje community, as desired. Families are encouraged to connect socially and share information about school and community life at NOVA and beyond. NEW FAMILIES can sign up here to be matched with an Ambassador. CURRENT NOVA FAMILIES can sign up here if you wish to volunteer as a Family Ambassador.

PARENT WORKSHOPS: We invite relevant guest speakers throughout the school year to lecture and discuss topics that appeal to parents and the greater NOVA community.

Community Service and FundraisingThe PTA organizes and encourages community service activities that benefit our local community. The PTA also organizes fundraisers to support its activities, as well as designated student activities and educational programs not funded by the school budget. FAMILY FESTIVAL: This annual event, which first took place in honor of the celebration of our 25th anniversary, is a family favorite. The event includes student performances, an international food court, fun games, raffles, and other engaging activities, among various ones. It is an excellent opportunity to meet other NOVA families and to raise money for a designated charity. In 2023 and 2024, the beneficiary was “Let’s Spread Love”, an NGO operating in the region of Kumanovo and working with local schools needing resources and support. WINTER MARKET: This event is a fresh initiative, first held in December 2022. It proved to be a great chance to connect local artisans and artists with the NOVA community and provide them with a venue to showcase their talents and artwork while also adding to the school’s festive environment during the winter holidays.

NOVA COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: The PTA is partnering with Nova Alumni to raise funds to offer scholarships to gifted and talented students who would like to attend Nova High School but are unable due to financial limitations. In March 2020, we were just days away from our first Nova Gala Night when we needed to postpone indefinitely due to COVID-19. We will keep you informed as to when we will be able to organize the event.
