What Makes Us European? Four NOVA Students Join the Conversation

Four of our tenth-graders took part in the Erasmus+ project “Youngsters of Today, Europeans of Tomorrow, Let’s Talk!”, organized by the Foundation Netherlands-Romania.

Under the theme “Melting Pot of Cultures,” young people from the Netherlands, Romania, Poland, Iceland, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Greece, North Macedonia, and Croatia spent a week exploring culture, identity, and what it means to be a European citizen today.

For our students, that meant learning through experience: sharing traditions during cultural evenings and a food festival, listening to perspectives from across Europe, and taking part in workshops and conversations about European identity.

Their week also took them to the European Parliament in Brussels, where they joined an informal discussion with MEP Anna Strolenberg; the European External Action Service for a debate on democracy and social media; and the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and the Embassy of Romania.

Experiences like this ask students to listen closely, contribute their own perspectives, and consider how different histories and cultures can shape a shared future.
