When Music Becomes Something You Feel

When Music Becomes Something You Feel

Last week, our Grade 10 students had the opportunity to experience the power of live orchestral music at the Macedonian Philharmonic.

The program featured two remarkable 20th-century masterpieces, Violin Concerto No. 1 by Sergei Prokofiev and Symphony No. 11 in G minor, Op. 103 by Dmitri Shostakovich, brought to life by outstanding guest artists, conductor Emil Tabakov, and violin soloist Ning Feng. Together, the performances took students on a journey through emotion, history, tension, beauty, and musical storytelling.

Students had the special opportunity to briefly meet and speak with the soloist and several orchestra musicians. After the performance, they were also invited on stage to experience the atmosphere from the musicians’ perspective.

Experiences like these deepen appreciation for the arts and remind us of the unique ability of music to connect, challenge, and inspire people across cultures and generations.
