University and Career Counseling

The University and Career Counseling Office supports students in making informed choices when applying to universities and in finding good matches for their academic/social/financial profiles. Fit is a central and overarching concept in the university search that ensures students have well-balanced lists that will guarantee their academic success, sense of social belonging, growth opportunities, and successful post-graduation outcomes.
The first step in the university search process is self-knowledge; therefore, a range of psychometric and career assessments are administered in grades 9 and 10, inviting students to actively reflect on their academic profile, strengths, passions, interests, and the environment in which they are most likely to thrive. When done correctly, the university search and application can and should be an enjoyable process of self-discovery. For this purpose, NOVA has developed a comprehensive university & career counseling curriculum for grade 9-12 students to enhance students' university and career readiness.  This is implemented through weekly counseling classes, one-on-one meetings, student and parent workshops on admission and application procedures for multiple study abroad destinations, and personalized support. Additionally, the University and Career Counselor organizes individual and group in-person and online presentations and visits from university admissions representatives from diverse global destinations and NOVA alumni. Emphasis is placed on the students being in the “driver’s seat” of the application process and developing functional executive skills to promote their growth, independence, and long-term success.
